August 1st 10am - 4pm South Haven
Get started in the fun of maritime craft!
Have you been sailing a bit hard this summer and need to mend a few tares?
Tall Ship MJ's bosun will take you under her wing to show you the ropes of basic sail repair through making a sea bag! While crafting this sweet pack, you'll be learning how to patch sail, turn rope into strong grommets, and make awesome knots to spruce up your deck (or ankles).
A bosun is the person on a sailing crew that is responsible for the maintenance of the rigging and sails.
A bosun's school is a hands on work space where traditional maritime knot, rope and canvas work is learned. We are eager to bring these skills to the modern day sailor.
Whether you want to get the edge out at sea by boosting your skill sets, or just flex at the dock with some decorative knot work, Bosun School is going to be a place of fun learning, and community.
The sea bag or its little sister the ditty bag, has long been a right of passage for the bosun or the sail maker. These bags are created with key techniques that are fantastic skills for the back pocket of any modern sailor. During your next race, be the one to raise your hand when the skipper shouts "Anyone know how to fix a sail?!"
As you construct your own sea bag, it becomes your work bench to learn the following skill sets:
When you're done, besides being ready to mend your own sails, you'll have an awesome looking canvas bag you can take out to sea!
2026 Summer's Bosun School - Sail Repair/Sea Bag Class is: August 1st from 10am - 4pm in South Haven Michigan. Exact location to be announced with final class number.
